These smart designers told you why it is a bad idea to play safe in decorating your small room.
1. You play safe
Instead of playing safe, place a big size printed wallpaper on your walls and maybe even your ceiling. It is easier and safer as well as cheaper to make dramatic decoration in a tiny space. You might be getting bored with the bold wallpaper in your house’s living room, so it’s best to make your smaller room a compelling space for you to spend your time.
2. You fill the room with too many stuff
A big furniture actually can make the room feel bigger, so long as the furniture is selected carefully. For example, the benefit from the high ceilings. A tall wardrobe that is placed appropriately gives an effect to draw somebody’s vision upward and so distract them from the limited space of the small room. Just don’t forget to make sure that every stuff you place counts as well as holds its functions.
3. You don’t make a strategy
You firstly decide every stuff that you think need to be placed in your room and you then work from there using your legerdemain. Geometrically divide your room into several zones, such as dining, relaxing, sleeping and working. Divide the space in halves or quarters, maybe even divide it diagonally and next you need to give every section a function.
4. You don’t pay attention on the walls’ and flooring's’ color.
Lighter color on walls and floors give an illusion of some more space automatically.
5. You’re too relying on your small furniture
You need to give to your room dark colors and not too many large furniture. With correct amount of accessories and lighting, they can give your room a bigger and more grandeur feel.
6. You fail to read the silver linings
Turn your room into an extravagant jewelry box. For example, once I updated my small room into an extravagant retreat. I upholstered my walls with a soft wool flannel, give my ceiling a coffer, and gave my room a plush yellow carpet. I also put a big flat TV on the wall and lastly placed a personally made sectional couch to maximize the space. Now my small room becomes a pleasant room my family can use.
7. You give your walls white color
You give your walls dark colors like charcoal gray color or Black Truffles color, a personal favorite. This will really boost the space.
8. You don’t give enough attention on scale as well as proportion
Personally-made upholstery is crucial in avoiding your room to be burdened with oversized furniture. Your furniture should have correct width and height as well as depth suitable to the size of your room. For tiny rooms, avoid any furniture with the depth more than 36 inches. Bigger does not always comes better.
